I’m not religious.
I don’t go to church. I don’t pretend to believe things I don’t. And I’m not here to defend the Catholic Church like it’s above criticism.
It’s not.
But even with all that?
Watching the U.S. start throwing its weight around toward the Vatican like it’s just another political opponent is completely unhinged.
Let’s Be Clear About What Actually Happened
There are credible reports that a U.S. official basically told the Vatican ambassador the U.S. has the military power to do whatever it wants and the Church should get in line.
Another remark reportedly dragged in the Avignon Papacy — basically shorthand for political power controlling the Pope.
That’s not diplomacy. That’s chest-thumping bullshit dressed up as policy.
And yeah, the Pentagon denied it. Of course they did.
I Don’t Need Religion to Know That’s a Line
You don’t have to believe in God to understand what the Pope represents.
To over a billion people, he isn’t just some ceremonial figure. He’s moral authority. Symbol. Weight.
So when you start talking to the Vatican like that, you’re not just talking to a government. You’re poking a global nerve.
And that’s not strength.
That’s recklessness.
Meanwhile, The Pope Is Calling This Shit Out
The Pope publicly called threats of wiping out an entire civilization “truly unacceptable.”
Because it is.
Because talking like civilian destruction is just another flex crosses out of politics and straight into something morally rotten.
This Is What Sloppy Power Looks Like
There used to be restraint.
Now it’s say whatever sounds strong, escalate everything, pretend consequences don’t exist, then act shocked when the rest of the world recoils.
That’s not leadership. That’s instability with a microphone.
Bottom Line
I don’t need religion to tell me this is wrong.
If your version of leadership includes flexing military power at the Vatican like it’s just another opponent to dominate, you’re not strong.
You’re reckless. And that’s a hell of a lot more dangerous.
